Dreaming of Magic

I often end up daydreaming while doing something else, be it chores or repetitive tasks. A lot of my ideas are born during times like this and this picture is showing a similar concept. Just a dreaming girl. The idea was a play on the 52-week Illustration Challenge’s theme from 2015. You can see the creative process behind this painting and listen to my thoughts in this video.

Woodland Fairy

I like to experiment with different media and paint surfaces whenever I have the chance to. This particular piece was painted on a piece of wood, which I’ve picked up at my local forest. I thought it was fitting to draw a forest spirit with horns and head full of vegetation.

Storytime by the Fire

Back in 2014 I’ve created a few pictures with a little girl surrounded by yeti. It was an idea I’ve held on to for the longest time and it evolved with time, but I really like to draw the yeti and pictures where the cold, frosty outside contrasts with the warm inside. In a similar fashion, this scene has a warm middle surrounded by the harsh cold weather, but don’t they look cozy and comfortable, tucked in their blankets by the warm fire, drinking warm cocoa and listening to the stories of yeti past? Picnic Adventure

Whenever I get to paint a commission, I provide my client with 2 or 3 sketches and then it’s up to them to chose a favorite. Of course, that means that some of those sketches get declined. It happens that I fell in love with one of those declined sketches and decide to paint it for myself. This painting was a case of a declined sketch, which I couldn’t leave unfinished. I loved the idea of two children traveling through a magical land with their rabbit companion. On their way to the picnic site, they have to cross  river and the ferry is operated by a couple of frogs, who want some of the picnic food as their payment for taking the kids across the river. If you would like to see the whole process behind this piece, watch this video.
