The Yellow Submarine

A very adventurous illustration depicting a mermaid and her companion, octopus, getting curious about the shiny yellow submarine and its passengers. The concept of this illustration comes from a lot of different sources. Not only do I like the “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles, I also love Trafalgar Law from One Piece, who sails the seas in similar fashion and at the time of sketching out this piece I was reading The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen. While this painting is not a direct homage to any of these, at the same time it is inspired by all of them. If you would like to see the process behind this piece, watch this video.

Gerda’s Journey

This piece is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “Snow Queen” and the scene in which the main character Gerda travels through frozen lands on top of a reindeer. I wanted to step away from the regular icy theme of using white and light blue and instead I’ve opted for a warmer pink mixed with a midnight blue. The result is a delicious landscape is topped with some creamy icing. No joke, it looks scrumptious. If you would like to see the process behind this painting, you can watch this video.

Old Man and his Turtle

A simple illustration with an old sailor traveling the seas on top of his turtle. The main point of this painting was an experiment with a gradient made out of colors that don’t mix well together. I’ve decided to use the shape of waves to create an illusion of a gradient without mixing the colors. If you would like to see the entire process behind this piece, watch this video.

Celestial Guardian

A mix of watercolor and soft pastels helped me create a galaxy themed painting, in which a spirit made out of cosmic dust, takes the shape of an animal and coils itself around the world it is meant to protect. This is a result of my love for the galaxy and terrarium trends that have been floating around for some time now. If you would like to see the process behind this painting, you can watch this video.

Tattoo Parlor

A watercolor painting depicting a scene at an imaginary tattoo parlor. I’ve created this piece while longing for quiet Summer days and the scent of flowers flowing through the window. My love for Japanese elements shows through, but I didn’t want to be bound by that theme and so nothing in this picture is following specific cultural designs or patterns. It is simply a scene from world that exists somewhere in my imagination. This piece has been created during the 2015 52-week Illustration Challenge. The theme was “Ink”. If you want to see the whole process behind this piece, watch this video.
