Fashion Victim

This artwork has been inspired by Marie Antoinette and the often crazy 18th century fashion. I wanted to paint something that included live animals in a fashion piece ever since I’ve read articles of similar practices when high society ladies would adorn their hair with lice birds, for example.

In this case, our cute fashionista decided to use a toy airplane as a centerpiece of her hairstyle and since every plane needs a pilot, there are some professional mice occupying that spot. Needless to say, the partner of this fashionista needs to have nerves of steel!

This piece was selected to be a part of the 52-week Illustration Challenge exhibition that took place in March 2015 in Perth, Australia. The exhibition featured one carefully selected piece from each of the 52 themes in 2014.
